5th Edition of Medipinas, the charity project of Medicine of CEU-UCH University

The 5th Edition of this humanitarian mission organized by the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera has already started. The destination is Philippines where a team of nine students from the 5th and 6th year of Medicine along with five professional doctors will develop medical and assistance activities addressed to the most vulnerable population. They will be working until the next 6th April.

A humanitarian medical team to improve the life conditions of the local community

The group Medipinas 2019 landed a few days ago in Manila where they have started to develop the first of the two stages of the project.

During the first week they have collaborated with the Hospital Diocesano San Antonio de Padua in Masbate. Already in the second part of the trip they will work in Iriga with the Sisters Servants of Jesus at their Hospital, the Santa Maria Josefa Hospital Foundation. They will also go to the homes of those with fewer resources who cannot go to the hospital.

This year the team of Medipinas has more participants so consultations and surgeries will also increase. The members of the team are the students, Jorge Rodríguez, Nuria Lafuente, Aurora Serra, Laura Fuertes, José García, Clàudia Pumarola, Rodrigo Valdés, Gontzal Iraola and Valentín Henarejos.

This edition is coordinated once more by the Professor of Medicine of CEU and surgeon Belén Merck. It counts also with the support of the surgeon and Professor of Medicine at CEU Antonio Barrasa as well as one anaesthetist (Antonio Villalonga), an internist (Pedro Gil) and a paediatrician (Teresa Sorribes).

Voluntary work, a solidary way to gain professional skills

The three CEU Universities offer charity opportunities as part of their academic program. In addition to a solidary tool, it is very useful for the employability of students. It is a way to enrich the resume, gain skills and come closer to the professional activity which also has very satisfactory results at a personal extent. With these experiences our students boost their capacity to work in teams, flexibility, organization, autonomy, initiative, problem-resolution, leadership, interpersonal communication, capacity to adapt to changes…And they take with then unique experiences which without doubt, will be unforgettable.
