CEU 90th anniversary

On 16th January 1933 CEU started his public life with the first classes of the studies of the Degree in Law of 1932-1933. But before the inauguration of its first classes, CEU had been building up since the 19th General Assembly of ACdP held from 11th to 19th September 1932. In such Assembly, the founder of CEU and chairman of ACdP, Ángel Herrera Oria – following the advice of Pio XI in a private audience- exposed the need to formally develop a deep humanistic and philosophical education of the Spanish society as a necessary learning for the correct dissemination and incarnation of Social Church Doctrine.

This humanistic, philosophical and theological education that was going to translate into courses and chairs as per the agreement of such Assembly evolved through 1932 and ended up in a proposal for the creation of CEU some months after. Therefore, in November 1932 the Bulletin of the ACdP offered the news that Federico Salmón Amorín had been appointed first Dean of CEU.

Salmón was a brilliant State Attorney who had been Director of La Verdad in Murcia and Law Professor at Universidad de Murcia and that would afterwards be Ministry of Justice and finally killed in Paracuellos del Jarama in 1936.
