The world changes quicker every day and it seems that it is going to continue at this same pace. Communications, social structures, relations, markets, labour environment… Everything has radically changed in very short time.

How can we get ready for an environment that has not been created yet but rather that we are not even near to understand how it works? The answer is: learning to learn again. Learnability as explained in one of the latest articles published on the website of Agrupación CEU Alumni.

As stated in this article, in such an unpredictable environment, the capacity to learn how to manage new realities is more important than technical knowledge. No matter how good these last ones are. We should recall that nearly half of work positions known to date are going to disappear in a couple of years. Therefore it is so important to know how to adapt and reinvent ourselves.

In fact experts state that youngsters who are now joining the labour market will have to update their knowledge and skills 10 to 14 times throughout their professional life.

Learnability, learning to learn again

And it is in this context where we find the idea of learnability which means: the capacity and willingness to learn again and in an efficient and quicker way to improve employability. It has to do with progressing at the same pace as society and with being in consonance with a world and labour market in constant transformation.

So far the traditional model of continued training started with good education and regular cycles of training to get updated. But today getting updated is not enough.

The capacity and the willingness to develop new skills will work in favour both of employees and companies boosting learnability.

Therefore the proposal of differential training experiences will be crucial to obtain better results in the acquisition of new skills. It is not only about training, it is not only about learning more, it is about learning through experience, errors and achievements.

-Training employees is not enough, it is necessary to create culture- as stated in CEU Alumni article. We are talking about creating the cultural environment to make it agile to complete training, i.e., it is necessary to create within organizations a culture where the employee is proactive in his training.

Learnability, a skill than can be developed

Good news is that just as any other skill, learnability can be developed. How? Changing our mindset “It is worth looking at each day with the intention of understanding and comprehending everything new that it can bring”.

Someone with a good level of learnability is curious and has an attitude: it wishes to learn and grow.
