The Faculty of Pharmacy of CEU USP takes part in the VI Symposium of Medicinal Chemistry for Young Researchers

The Faculty of Pharmacy of Universidad CEU San Pablo has taken part in this new edition which purpose is to foster students’ interest in research as well as to promote collaborations with companies.

The VI Symposium of Medicinal Chemistry for Young Researchers is an encounter sponsored by the Spanish Society of Medicinal Chemistry (SEQT for its Spanish initials) hosted at the premises of Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK). This proposal started at the University Residence of San Pablo in 2013 thanks to the commitment of several trainee researchers of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The Organizing Committee was coordinated by Bruno Di Geronimo, CEINDO student of the Program of Health Sciences and Technology. It has counted with the collaboration of a group of students from different university and research centres.

A pledge for the future of investigation

The Congress focuses above all on therapeutic chemistry but also deals with issues related to health sciences. Its aim is to offer young researchers –degree, master or PhD students- the opportunity to expose their works and projects. In addition, the program has included several conferences on the incorporation of companies and the professional future of the pharmaceutical industry in addition to coaching sessions, among many other proposals.

The Congress was inaugurated by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Beatriz de Pascual-Teresa. In her speech she highlighted the importance of involving youngsters in the research and collaboration with companies. The plenary conference was given by the Professor of Molecular, Cell and Structural Biology of the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Eindhoven University of Technology Christian Ottmann. He lectured about the design of drugs to stabilize protein interactions in diseases such as cystic fibrosis or Alzheimer.
