17th edition of the Advertising and Communication Festival at UAO University of Barcelona

The GoliADs UAO CEU Awards, the Advertising and Communication Festival in which the students of Universitat Abat Oliba CEU of Barcelona evaluate the work of professionals in the field of advertising and communication, celebrated its seventeenth edition this year. The awards gala took place in the university’s Aula Magna, with a full house.

Students reward agencies and their professionals

The agency TBWA was the star of the XVII GoliADs UAO CEU Awards gala. It was the only one to repeat as the winner in two categories: ‘Best Digital Campaign (with ‘Doritos Crunch Cancelation’) and ‘Best Graphic Campaign – in collaboration with the Heimat Agency (for the campaign ‘DKH-Sun Warning Flag’ for German Cancer Aid).

The GoliAD for the Best Human Values Campaign went to Cheese Burger Productions S.L., for “The watch that saves lives”, showing the Durcal device, created to monitor the health and integrity of elderly people. Sapristi Décom won the award for Best TV Spot with “Muy nuestro. Muy nuestras” (Very ours. Very much ours), which shows the benefits of the Spanish artichoke.

In the directly elected categories, the award for Best Professional Career went to the journalist Carles Francino, for his long career in the media. Juan Carlos Unzué was recognised in the category of Social Communicator, and Gerard Romero in the category of New Communicator. Likewise, the Cruïlla Festival won the GoliAD in the Innovation and Creativity category.

Romero was the star of one of the most endearing moments of the gala, when he called on the audience to join in the ‘haka’ that he started from the top of the stage. In addition, Josep Mª Brugués was awarded the Andreu Barrabino Teaching Support Award, established in memory of the former director of Advertising and Public Relations studies and one of the driving forces behind the GoliADs.

Finally, in the awards chosen by popular vote on social networks, Nude Project Podcast was chosen in the Best Podcast category, along with Sheila Hernández of es.decirdiario who won the award for Best Content Creator.

Remembering “Grease”

In its 17th edition, the GoliADs gala took the film ‘Grease’ as the main theme. The night was full of references to the legendary film from the late seventies, including a musical performance.

The UAO CEU GoliADs Awards is the Advertising and Communication festival organised by the students of Advertising and Public Relations at the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU. In it, the university students distinguish the work of agencies and professionals, inverting the usual terms of the relationship, as it is the apprentices (Advids) who judge the giants of the profession (GoliADs).

Why study Advertising at Universitat UAO?

Initiatives such as these awards are one of the reasons to study a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising at Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, UAO. But there are many more, such as its employability (94.7% of its advertising students find a job at the end of their studies) or its new teaching methodology inspired by learning by doing and flipped classroom models, in which the student becomes the centre of the teaching model and the classroom becomes the generator of professional experiences.
