7 December, 2023Idoia Salazar, Professor of the Faculty of Arts and Communication Sciences was invited by the Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and The Caribbean (ODUCAL for its Spanish initials) to lecture at the inauguration of its 20th General Assembly held in Salta (Argentina). This conference was attended by Rectors of the main Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Professor Salazar focused her lecture on the challenges and risks of generative AI specifically in Higher Education, highlighting its opportunities in class both for students and professors. Also, she talked about the potential incidents consequence of its misuse.
‘It is important to receive proper training on the use of these AI models, where and when applicable. AI is not for everything and it is not at all an “Oracle”. It can also make mistakes just like humans. Therefore, it should serve as a support tool for students and professors rather than as a replacement”.
ODUCAL, member of the Regional Associations of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC for its Spanish initials) has the objective of contributing to the progress of higher catholic education in Latin America and through collaborative actions oriented to the improvement of the quality of education, investigation, service to the society and perfection of the essential task of announcing the Gospel and serving as a place of encounter between faith and culture.
