96% employability rate of graduates

The employability rate of CEU graduates is 96% in the short term, according to Javier Tello, Director General of CEU, during the meeting “Challenges of employability in the current environment”, organised by ABC newspaper and CEU, which dealt with the keys to employability in sectors such as hospitality, construction, health and education, among others. A percentage that he described as a “huge success”, while at the same time clarifying that when talking about employability, more variables need to be analysed.

Specifically, he referred to job stability, duration, career depth in the organisation and remuneration, among others. Thus, he stressed that CEU, as a humanist and Christian educational institutionseeks “quality” employability because this “is a fundamental key to a young person’s life project“.

“Our obligation as educators is to be a necessary partner in the success of this life project, so we have to work on employability with these kinds of self-demands”, he defended.

Keys to employability

Digital skills, knowledge in areas such as finance or languages, and tolerance to frustration and failure were some of the keys to integration in the labour market highlighted by the experts who participated in this forum.

Javier Tello, emphasised the “rapid” obsolescence of technical knowledge. “We have to lose fear from the education system of this threat that says that in 10 years’ time jobs will not look anything like the current ones,” he said.

During the meeting, the need for closer relations between universities, companies and students was discussed. “Only in this way will we be able to understand the present and future labour market in terms of employability, with a practical approach that can influence the integral development of the person, from early childhood education to access to the labour market.

Also taking part in the meeting were: Noelia Ruiz, Vice-Minister of University, Research and Innovation of the Andalusian Regional Government; Regla Bejarano, Director of the Cruzcampo Foundation; Javier Harto González-Vallarino, Managing Partner of Dopp Consultores and Head of the Training and Development Area and Carlos López Mariano, Partner in charge of Garrigues in Andalusia and the Canary Islands.
