The ‘Rewind’ project, international finalist of the competition ‘Peer to Peer: Facebook Global Digital Challenge’

Tomorrow July 2nd will take place at the MolenGeek in Brussels the international final of the competition Peer to Peer: Facebook Global Digital Challenge. This edition has counted with 30 university centres worldwide among which we find Universidad CEU San Pablo. This meeting will present the three best projects. Among them we find «Rewind», already finalist in 2017. It will compete with the American University of Nigeria (Nigeria) and the University of Dhaka (Bangladesh).

#RewindRespectReact: a campaign to fight against hatred on the Internet

Rewind is a proposal of students and alumni of the Faculty of Arts and Communication Sciences of CEU San Pablo. Its purpose is to make people aware of hatred on social networks and fight against these more and more frequent messages.

With the motto #RewindRespectReact it proposes a more conscious use of social networks and encourages a reaction against this type of attitudes. It also invites to reflect before sharing a thought evaluating the impact it may have on others. All of it to achieve Internet at the service of the exchange of reasoned opinions.

Therefore it wishes to combat that irrational hatred some people give full rein to behind a screen proposing three lines of action:

  • To inform: users to make them aware of this reality. The hatred problem is broadly extended on social networks.
  • To educate: using casual messages to connect with younger audiences.
  • To obtain a reaction: for users to identify and neutralize hatred messages.

The Rewind project is supported by the Professors of the Faculty of Arts and Communication Sciences Marilé Pretel, Fernando Marugán and Ricardo Ruiz de la Serna.
