Eight useful advices to look for a job on the Internet

Internet is one of the most useful tools when looking for job opportunities. With a few clicks we have access to very varied contact forms with all sorts of companies as well as access to the latest job opportunities. Nevertheless, for the search to be successful we have to bear in mind a series of guidelines.

Advices to efficiently look for a job on the Internet

There are job portals, vertical and general social networks…also, many companies and organizations publish in their Websites the vacancies available and ease the application through their own Websites. Moreover, students of each of the three CEU Universities have access to one job portal with thousands of exclusive offers from the most important national and international companies. This also happens with the job portal of CEU Alumni, one of the advantages offered to its members.

Regardless of the channel chosen to start the search, it is positive to bear in mind these points:

  1. To establish a clear professional objective and show it in your curriculum and profiles.
  2. To invest in your personal brand and supervise your digital print. Pay special interest to your activity in Linkedin, the professional network by excellence.
  3. Do not use one single search channel: LinkedIn, Infojobs, sector social networks, corporate webs…It is the best way to access more offers and more varied.
  4. Use alerts, mobile apps and all tools notifying news and changes in your applications.
  5. If you do not have your own web or blog, prepare an attractive online CV. There are tools such as about.me or Prezi which allow you to prepare a visual and interesting presentation.
  6. To have always a PDF version of your CV at hand to attach if requested.
  7. To pay attention when drafting a cover letter: it is a very important tool to convince the recruiter that you are the perfect candidate. Try to make it as personal as possible for each application.
  8. Follow experts in HHRR, employment, coaching and prescribers such as Yoriento in social networks as well as the accounts of the main portals such as Infojobs, Infoempleo, Laboris… This way you will have access to advices and useful resources.

Patience is also essential when looking for a job: it is not worth applying to as many offers as possible without reflecting or bombarding hundreds of companies with standard emails. The possibilities of receiving an answer will increase in the extent our offer will be attractive, differential and above all adapted to the person we are addressing it to and its needs.
